SUMMER SEASON 2024/25

Juniors (7 - 17 yrs old) and Opens (min 15 yrs old)

The peak futsal season is opposite to the Football (Soccer) season and is held in the summer months between October to March (with a short break over Christmas & New Years aligning roughly with the School holiday calendar).
During this time we run local in-house competitions at the Hills District PCYC, Arana Hills for Juniors and Opens on Friday nights (Juniors) and Sundays (Juniors & Opens).
Players are encouraged to form their own teams with their friends (8 players is an ideal number, 7 is the minimum) and then register their team into the respective age group competition.
Team nominations open in late August and close when all available team spots are filled.
Individual players who do not have a team to join can register their interest via the 'find me a team' link and we will do our best to find a suitable team for you.

Our in-house summer competitions are broken up into the following categories:  

Competitions
U7-8yrs, U9-10yrs, U11-12yrs, U13/14yrs, Youth (U15-U17) and Opens (minimum 15 years of age).

Match days
Friday night - U14
Sundays (in order) - U8 (early morning), U10 (mid-late morning & early afternoon), U12 (early & mid afternoon),
​Youth (mid-late afternoon & early evening), Opens (evening)

Note: Players aged between 15 and 17 may nominate to play in the Youth OR Opens age groups

Players play for a set team and compete against other teams in a structured competition. All competitions allow for all genders.
All games are played at the Hills District PCYC on a set day of the week.
Teams are awarded competition points with the top teams in each age group progressing to finals. The remaining teams will play friendly matches alongside finals. 
For the Summer 2024/25 season, the following competitions may be divided into Division 1 and Division 2 (depending on numbers), TBC:

• Youth (U15-17) TBC
• Opens (15+) TBC

Representative futsal
Our representative teams compete in Football QLD's Advanced Representative Junior Leagues and in the FQ State Futsal Titles. Trial dates & times are advertised on this site and via our club Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages, roughly around June and onwards each year!

Expressions of Interest for Junior Futsal (program for 14 years & younger) are open for Winter at Arana United!
We’ll keep those interested up to date as the situation progresses over time.

*Note: Players who register for Winter season on Squadi (which includes $42.50 Senior or $37.50 Junior Football Queensland governing body fees) will be covered by FQ Futsal insurance for the following Summer season (season match fees only are payable)!

Games are played on Sunday afternoons / early evenings at the Hills District PCYC for Opens and Expressions of Interest for Junior Futsal (program for 14 years & younger) will be open for a limited time.

Forming A Team
Players are encouraged to form their own teams with their friends (8 players is an ideal number, 7 is the minimum) and then register their team into the respective age group competition.  Team nominations open in mid-March and stay open until a couple of weeks into the competition (late entries may be accepted depending on competition make-up of existing confirmed teams, so please submit regardless and we’ll get back to you).

Looking to submit an Expression of Interest for a Junior aged player (14 years or younger)?
Please use the same forms about for Team Nomination (NOMINATE A TEAM) or an indiviual/s looking to be placed onto a team/program (FIND ME A TEAM) whether you're a solo player or have a small number of players (3 or less) looking to be placed on a team together.

Note: Groups of 4 or more (that need additional players for example) should submit a Team Nomination form and fill out the remaining spots as BLANK, then mention in the comments the number of players you may require.

FQ Junior & Senior Futsal registration is for a 12 month window. This means (for those that play all year round, starting April in Winter season) the FQ portion of your registration will be automatically covered for the following Summer season you play within the 12 month window. (additional match fees only payable)

Teams must have matching shirts with numbers on the back; Matching shorts and socks across teams are preferred. 

Long socks, shorts (without pockets), shin pads, non-marking shoes are required. ​

​Arana united's stance on jewellery, ReLIGIOUS ITEMS and player safety

Arana United Futsal Club runs our Community competitions under the FIFA Futsal Laws of the Game

Referring to Law 4 of the FIFA Futsal Laws of the Game, it mentions that players must not use or wear anything that is considered to be dangerous. This includes, but is not limited to jewellery, watches and any religious item deemed to cause a safety concern by the Referees and/or Club officials of Arana United Futsal Club.
Attached further below is the relevant Law regarding player safety.

Our governing body, Football Queensland, has also taken the same stance on jewellery, mentioning that "Law 4 is explicit in its intent and Football Queensland reaffirms that no items of jewellery of any kind are permitted to be worn while participating in affiliated matches and must be removed prior to participation in a match." 
"We ask that club officials, team managers and coaches assist referees by ensuring every participant is meeting the requirements of Law 4 prior to entering the field of play."

This means that if you wish to play at Arana United, all jewellery and items that are dangerous must be removed prior to the beginning of the match, including but not limited to earrings, piercings, rings, watches etc.
These items put your safety at risk, as well as others' safety too.
The safety of everyone is of paramount importance and cannot be ignored.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS 

HOW MANY PLAYERS in each TEAM?

8 players is an ideal number for a team, with a minimum of 7 and maximum of 10. This will give you 3 substitute players if everyone turns up (five players take the pitch). However players are often away for one reason or another so this will ensure you will always have enough players. Team nominations with less than 7 players can request registered players to help meet the minimum team size requirement; If they cannot gain a 7th player the team nomination will (most likely) not be accepted*

*This will be assessed on a case by case basis

ARE GAMES ALL PLAYEd AT THE SAME VENUE?

Yes.  All games are played at the same venue each week.  All local (in-house) competitions are held at the Hills District PCYC, 135A Olearia Street West, Everton Hills (Arana Hills, North Brisbane, QLD).  

What are the age groups?

Summer 2024/25:
7-8 yrs: Sunday mornings (17 week season - October 2024 to March 2025)

9-10 yrs: Sunday morning / early afternoon (17 week season - October 2024 to March 2025)

​11-12 yrs: Sunday early - mid afternoon (17 week season - October 2024 to March 2025)

​13-14 yrs: Friday afternoons / evenings (17 week season - October 2024 to March 2025)

Youth (15-17 yrs): Sunday mid - late afternoon (17 week season - October 2024 to March 2025)

Open (min 15 yrs old): Sunday late afternoon / evening (17 week season - October 2024 to March 2025)

For ALL competitions, there is no minimum or maximum required amount of male and female (or any other gender) players, any number of all genders is acceptable!

Winter 2025:
Open (15+): Sunday afternoons / evenings ​(17 week Winter season - April - August 2025).
No minimum or maximum amount of male, female or any other gender required, any number of all genders is accepted!

Expressions of Interest are also open for juniors for Winter 2025! (See Winter 2025 Season general information further above for info)

can we borrow players if we are short?

All players must be fully registered for insurance purposes. Any team caught using a non-registered 'ring-in' player will have game points deducted.  All player names will have their registration status checked before playing.  
You CAN borrow another registered player from another team in the same age group or a younger age group (e.g. U14 can borrow from U12 if needed, see below).  You must have at least 3 of your own players before you can borrow others.
​Subject to competition rules, you might be able to borrow from younger age groups a limited number of times (please check comp rules).
​You can only borrow enough players to make up a team of 5 (you cannot borrow additional substitutes).
The only time you certainly CANNOT borrow players is for finals matches.

Is there team training?

No. It is up to teams to arrange their own training, but only if they want to - there is no requirement.  Most teams are happy to just come and play their weekly game.  We do not provide training for in-house club teams as we don't have the resources or court space.  If you want to organise your own training you will need to source out a venue as the PCYC is generally full with other sports on other days.  We do run training for our representative teams who play in the Gold Coast International and other Representative leagues/tournaments but this is only for the players who have been selected into these teams following trials.

Can we pay match fees on a weekly basis?

Unfortunately not.  Each player pays their season registration fees up front and these include the match fees for the entire season (along with player insurance from Football Queensland and Football Australia).

You can order right now!

does our team need a coach?

Not necessarily. You are only required to have a team manager to ensure players are marked off at the Club Official Bench before matches commence. Players will learn by playing the game - there is no requirement to have a coach yelling instructions at them. Feel free to just let them play! Parents - sit back and enjoy watching the game.  It's okay to clap and cheer, it's not okay to yell at the players and abuse referees.  

HOW OLD DO PLAYERS HAVE TO BE FOR EACH AGE GROUP?

Junior age groups go up in increments i.e 7/8 yrs, 9/10 yrs, 11/12 yrs, 13/14 yrs, Youth (15/16/17 yrs) and Opens (15 yrs minimum).  

We often get the question: 'We have a team of 12 yr olds and one 13 yr old.  Can the 13 yr old play in U12s with his friends?'

The general answer is 'no'. Players generally cannot play down an age group.  

However exemptions may be given in certain cases. i.e an older female player may be allowed to play with a younger team of mainly boys, or a beginner level player may be allowed to play in a younger team with his friends. If the older player is superior in physical size and skill level then they will have to join a team in their own age group.  

We also get asked the question, 'We have a team of half 8 yr olds and half 9 yr olds. What age group do they play in?' 

They should play in the u10 yrs age group as the 9 yr olds can't play in the lower age group with the 7 and 8 yr olds without an exemption.

You are best to try to form teams that align with our age groups.

Please contact us via email if you'd like to request an exemption (for example, in the case above where the team is a mixture of 8 and 9 year olds).
